NEW YORK â€” Wal-Mart Stores Inc. cut its annual profit and revenue outlook Thursday as the world's largest retailer expects a tough economy at home and abroad to continue to squeeze its low-income shoppers through the rest of the year.
Wal-Mart also reported second-quarter results that missed Wall Street estimates. The company's stock fell nearly 2 percent in premarket trading.
The spring and early summer showed some improvement from the first quarter, but overall, it's been a tough first half of the year for the discounter.

LITTLE ROCK â€” The Arkansas State Police has deployed 24 new low-profile vehicles that are designed to blend in with ordinary traffic.
The agency showed off the vehicles at headquarters early Wednesday.
The new cares are equipped the same as a conventional patrol car â€” but come in different colors, do not have the roof-mounted bar light and are marked only on the passenger side with the State Police star and blue stripe.
Each of the 12 troops in the state get two of the vehicles.
Plans are under way for Amplify Christian Music Festival and event coordinators are saying it's going to be big.
Josh Turner, one of the creators of the festival, said "Saline County has never seen an event like this â€” from the size of the production to the well-known artists."
"It's a big deal," he said.
Attendance and parking will be free.
Major artists slated to perform include Shawn McDonald, Matthew West, David Crowder, Josh Wilson and others.

EL DORADO â€“ The Benton girls finished second and the boys fifth in the 18th Annual Simmons First Wildcat Invitational Golf Tournament at the par-71 El Dorado Country Club on Monday. The Lady Panthers shot a 312 coming behind a dominate performance from Conway, which shot a 251. Smackover was third at 331, El Dorado fourth, Camden Harmony Grove and Sheridan. Conwayâ€™s Logan Tolliver took the overall girls title with an 80, while her teammate Alexis McDaniel shot an 81.
Joseph Paul "JP" Leveritt, 96, of Bryant, who served as a physical trainer for President Harry Truman, died July 12 in Little Rock.
Leveritt became a physical therapist at Baptist Hospital in the 1960s where he retired a. Throughout his life he also worked as a potter, focusing on utilitarian pottery made on the wheel.
Gavin Leon Wright, 33, of Benton, passed away Aug. 9, 2013.Â
He was born Dec. 8, 1979, in Little Rock to Rick Wright and Karen Wilson Wright.
He Â retired as a captain from the Little Rock Fire Department after 11 years of service. Gavin graduated from Benton High School in 1998.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Floyd and Willie Wright, Evelyn Marie and George Hart, and Guy Leon Wilson.
