Baptist seeking third term on Benton Council

Alderman Frank Baptist is seeking a third term to the Ward 1, Position 1 seat he holds on the Benton City Council.

Baptist has served on the council's Streets Committee for the past four years.

Reflecting on his time on the council, he noted that he has witnessed many improvements in the city, but said he has high expectations for even more projects to be instigated.

"I have helped respond to the city's needs, i.e., streets, drainage, parks, new civic center, recycling and future projects outlined in the mayor's annual state-of-the-city speech," he said.

$2.2M allocated to Alcoa project

During an emergency meeting Tuesday of the Saline County Quorum Court, the justices of the peace approved an ordinance appropriating $2.2 million in county road funds for the Alcoa Road improvement project.

The road-widening project is a joint venture involving the cities of Benton and Bryant and Saline County.
Tuesday's meeting was called by Saline County Judge Lanny Fite to appropriate the county road department's portion required for right-of-way acquisition.

Mayor Dabbs appoints 2 to city's park committee

Bryant Mayor Jill Dabbs announced she has appointed two people to the Bryant Park Committee.

John "Hap" Campbell and Joe Heard are scheduled to take their place on the committee in the Ward 2, Positions 1 and 2, respectively.

Campbell grew up in Helena and West Helena and attended DeSoto School.

"He has always been an avid outdoorsman starting when he was a young child," Dabbs said.
