Ina Marie Drennan

Ina Marie Drennan, age 91, of Benton passed away Tuesday, March 13, 2012.  She was born Nov. 16, 1920 in West Bolton, Kan. 
Mrs. Drennan was a retired school cafeteria manager.  She was a member of Northside Church of Christ and Sharon Extension Homemakers Club. 
Mrs. Drennan was preceded in death by her parents, John Ben and Eva May Hughes; her husband, Hollis Drennan; a sister, Edith Lee; and three brothers, James, Fred and Robert (Bob) Hughes.

Billie J. Cooper Honea

Billie J. Cooper Honea, 82 of Dayton, Texas, formerly of Prescott, passed away Friday, Sept. 30, 2011, at the San Jacinto Methodist Hospital in Baytown, Texas.
Mrs. Honea was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 32 years, Fred W. Honea Sr.; a son, Donnie Garrett; a grandson, Joshua P. Honea; and seven brothers and sisters.
Billie was born July 4, 1929, in Prescott to Thomas A. and Zula L. Nolen Cooper. She is a former resident of Baytown, Texas, and resided in Dayton, Texas, area for the past 15 years. She was a homemaker and a Baptist by faith.

Sylvia G. McCray, age 95, of Benton passed away Monday evening, March 12, 2012. 
She was born July 16, 1916, to Russell A. and Laura Rich Garlington in Bryant.
Mrs. McCray was preceded in death by her husband, Ben M. McCray; her parents; her brother, M. F. “Tom” Garlington; her sister, Era Lynch; and a nephew, Michael J. Garlington.

Emily Gatlin Lisenbey

Emily Gatlin Lisenbey, 90, of Benton passed away on Sunday, March 11. She was born Nov. 26, 1921, in Traskwood.
Emily was a retired L.P.N. for the state of Arkansas and a member of First Assembly of God in Benton
She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Minnie Davis Gatlin; her husband, Eddie Lisenbey;,brothers, Delmar, Houston, George and John Gatlin; and a grandson.

Wallace Ted Vogler Wade

Wallace Ted Vogler Wade of Tucson, Ariz., and Traskwood, died March 10 at his home. He was 67.
Born Feb. 19, 1945, in Memphis, Tenn., Ted was the son of Lewis Arthur Wade Jr. and Dorothy Lorraine Casto. 
He was the grandson of Lewis Arthur Wade Sr. and Alvina “Vernie” Ulmer of Shelby County, Tenn., and Ralph Bob Casto and Ethel Blassingame of Pulaski County.

James B. Gately

James B.  Gately, age 71, of Benton died Sunday, March 11, 2012, after battling lung cancer for several years. 
J.B. was born and raised in Lonoke, where he graduated from high school. He was the son of Sam J. Gately and Lillie Mae Gately, who both preceded him in death. He was also predeceased by a brother, Sidney W. Gately of Earles. 
 J.B. was a Little Rock Police officer for 13 years and worked for Alcoa at Bauxite in the plant security and fire departments until his retirement in 2004.

Paul McAdoo

Paul McAdoo, 78, of Malvern, passed away Thursday, March 8 at Heartland Rehabilitation and Care Center of Benton.  He was born January 31, 1934 in Pine Bluff and grew up in El Dorado and Traskwood. Paul’s second greatest passion in life was driving 18 wheelers across country, the first being his wife and family.  Other great past times of his included fishing, hunting, John Deere tractors and visiting with friends-especially at the locals table at J.J.’s Truck Stop.  He was a very out going person, never meeting a stranger and always left a lasting impression on everyone he met.

Bryant hires new city attorney

Richard "Chris" Madison, licensed in all courts of Arkansas, the U.S. District Courts for Eastern and Western Districts of Arkansas, the 8th Circuit Court of Appeals and the U.S. Supreme Court, is now Bryant's staff attorney.
Born and raised in south Pulaski County, Madison graduated from Mills High School and attended the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville, where he earned a bachelor's degree in political science.

Loss of Entergy transimission line causes local power outage

A widespread electrical power outage on Sunday night in Benton was quickly corrected, according to Terry McKinney, general manager of Benton Utilities.
McKinney said the area affected involved "approximately one-third of the city."
The incident occurred about 9 p.m. when Benton Utilities "lost the Benton North Substation and the outage extended pretty much to everything north of the interstate, which included Walmart and a few other stores on the south side."
McKinney noted that Saline Memorial Hospital was not affected by the outage.

Two innings seal Lady Miners' fate

It was a rough couple of innings for the Bauxite Lady Miners softball team as they gave up six runs apiece in the second and third innings in their 12-1 loss to the Magnent Cove Lady Panthers on Tuesday in Bauxite. Senior Bauxite pitcher Bethany Edwards retired the side in order on four pitches in the first inning, but errors and mental lapses by the Lady Miners led to 34 pitches each in the next two innings.
