SMH Foundation, Everett join forces for hospital fundraiser

Saline Memorial Health Foundation has teamed with Everett Buick GMC to host the 11th annual Swing Fore Saline golf tournament this Thursday and Friday at Hurricane Golf and Country Club in Bryant.

Being held in conjunction with the tournament is the annual Gathering on the Greens on Thursday night at the country club.

“We look forward to this event every year,” said Matt Brumley, SMH Foundation Director, “and it’s not just because it’s a great excuse to golf.

Alexander woman dies while snorkeling in Hawaii

HONOLULU — A Saline County woman died while snorkeling off Lanai during a visit to Hawaii.

According to a press release, 58-year-old Jane Dorn of Alexander died Monday morning on a snorkel cruise.

Maui police say Dorn was a guest on the Pacific Whale Foundation’s Ocean Discovery snorkel cruise.

She was found unresponsive in the water.

Dorn was given CPR on the vessel and was transported to Manele Harbor where Lanai police determined she had died.

An autopsy was planned.

Police originally reported Dorn as being from Arizona.

Only 11 punch tickets on first day of school voting

The first day of early voting in the annual school election drew only 11 voters.

All early voting is taking place at the "Vote Here" election center located on North Main Street in Benton, across the street from the Saline County Courthouse.

Early voting is continuing today through Friday and will be available again on Monday, Sept. 15.
The early voting site is open each day from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

On Election Day, Sept. 16, all voting must be done at the various polling sites.

•A man in Roland reported a check was stolen from his mailbox and used to make purchases at Walmart.
•A woman on Ridgecrest Cove reported the theft of a handgun from her vehicle.
•An employee at Walmart reported an individual stole a drill.
•John Maher, 41, of Benton was arrested on Fifth Street and charged with theft of property. He also is named in two outstanding warrants.
•An employee at Dollar General on Edison Avenue reported receiving a counterfeit $10 bill.
•A man on King Road reported seeing a suspicious person.
