Shopping center groundbreaking set Friday

The construction of Hurricane Creek Village Shopping Center will get under way Friday with a groundbreaking ceremony at Arkansas and Alcoa Road.

The ceremony at the previously vacant lot is set for 8 a.m.

The center is being built by The Retail Connection, which is hosting the ceremony along with officials of the city of Benton, Kroger and media outlets.

The center will be anchored by a 123,000-square-foot Kroger Marketplace store and a 62,000-square-foot Academy Sports store. In total, the center will include approximately 250,000 square feet of retail development.

Man charged with having drugs and explosives

An Alexander man has been charged with several drug and firearms charges.

Jimmy Hearington, 29, is facing 30 charges in connection with the investigation.

On Sunday, Saline County Sheriff's deputies responded to a shooting on Centark Cove. When deputies arrived at the scene, they found that the victim had suffered a self-inflicted wound, said Lt. Scott Courtney, Saline County Sheriff's Office spokesperson.

While investigating the shooting, detectives found several explosives and firearms.
