Bauxite routs Pulaski Academy

BAUXITE – The Bauxite Lady Miners’ last two games have been ones of extremes. On Friday, the Lady Miners lost 12-1 to the Nashville Lady Scrappers in 7-4A conference action, and on Monday, Bauxite routed the Pulaski Academy Lady Bruins 17-0 to win its first conference game of the year.

Though the Lady Miners (3-5, 1-2 7-4A) lost big to Nashville, Bauxite Coach Wes Mode was more pleased with how his team played against the Lady Scrappers than in the 17-0 shellacking of the Lady Bruins.

Benton makes it 11 straight with rout

BENTON – The Benton Lady Panthers have been on a tear over the past six or seven weeks.

They have already added some hardware to the trophy case by winning the Bootsie Gordon Tournament in early March and now they are trying to keep a healthy winning streak alive as they get into the meat of a tough schedule.

Benton, coming into Monday, had won 10 straight games with it’s only loss coming to arch rival Bryant on opening day.

Lady Hornets win Invitational

VAN BUREN – The Bryant Lady Hornets’ softball team had a rollercoaster of a weekend in west Arkansas. After routing Van Buren 17-0 in 7A Central conference action on Thursday, the Lady Hornets then played six games in two days in the Van Buren Invitational on Friday and Saturday. Bryant won all six games to carry on its undefeated season to improve to 18-0 overall and 3-0 in conference play. All invitational games were limited to 70 minutes because of the number of games and time constraints.

“We had a good tournament,” Bryant Coach Debbie Clark said. “Winning is always good.

Hornets rout, but have work to do

BRYANT – After senior Dylan Cross pitched the Bryant Hornets to a 9-1 win over the Van Buren Pointers in 7A Central conference action in Van Buren on Friday, the Hornets continued their routing ways with an 11-1 victory over the Texarkana Razorbacks on Saturday afternoon in Bryant.
In the win against the Pointers, Cross gave up one run in a seven-inning, complete-game, giving up five hits and a walk while striking out seven.

Benton avoids stinger, gets past Jackets

BENTON - The Benton Panthers came into Friday’s match against the conference leading Sheridan Yellowjackets looking to continue their winning ways after routing Texarkana on Tuesday. That is exactly what the Panthers did as they beat the Jackets 5-0 to move into a tie for first in the 6A South.

Though the Panthers got past the Jackets, the scoreboard was full of zeros until the bottom half of the sixth inning. Coulton Lee shut down Sheridan for seven innings on his way to tossing a complete-game shutout to get Benton to 3-1 in conference play and 10-4 overall.

Jr. Hornets dominate

HOT SPRINGS – The Bryant ninth-grade boys earned their second win in a row Tuesday at the Lakeside Relays in Hot Springs.  The Jr. Hornets scored a total of 155 points to dominate the field, finishing 41 points ahead of runner-up White Hall. 

Lady Panthers push streak to 10

BENTON - Saline County is home to one of the hottest high school softball teams in the state so far this season. The Benton Lady Panthers are now 10-1 and are riding a 10-game winning streak after a dazzling performance against Sheridan, winning 7-1 on Thursday.

Hornets not sharp, but beat Rockets

BRYANT – The Bryant Hornets hosted the Little Rock Catholic Rockets in 7A Central conference play on Tuesday and came away with a 4-1 victory.

The Hornets (12-2, 2-1 7A Central) scored all four of their runs in the second inning with two outs. Senior Dylan Cross singled to start the inning and went to second base on sophomore Wesley Akers’ walk. After sophomore Chase Tucker struck out, junior Hayden Daniel grounded into a fielder’s choice to third base, who stepped on the bag to put runners on first and second.

Reddies get another Lady Hornet

BRYANT – Bryant senior distance runner Skylar Oswalt joined teammates Ashlyn Lessenberry and Stacy Emmerling to run cross country at Henderson State University in Arkadelphia when she signed a letter of intent Wednesday morning at the Bryant Gym. According to cross country Coach Danny Westbrook, Henderson may need to change their mascot.

“This is the third signing with Henderson State with Ashyln Lessenberry and Stacy Emmerling,” Westbrook said. “The Lady Reddies are going to have to change their mascot to the Lady Hornets. We’re soon going to have our team down there.”

Power and Pitching: Lady Hornets hit three home runs and throw no-hitter

BRYANT – The Bryant Lady Hornets got a no-hitter from senior pitcher Peyton Jenkins, two home runs from sophomore Kaley Coppock and continued their undefeated season getting a 10-0 victory over the Mount Saint Mary’s Belles in 7A Central action on Tuesday at Lady Hornets Field.

“We did what we were supposed to,” Bryant Coach Debbie Clark said. “This is a game that we should win. I told the girls after spring break that this is a game we have to come in and take care of business. Those are the games as a coach that you kind of get worried about, but the girls came and did their jobs.”
