Sheridan drops to defending champs El Dorado, 38-7

October 10, 2011

The class 6A No. 1 team in the state, the El Dorado Wildcats, wasted little time in dispatching the Sheridan Yellowjackets 38-7 at Yellowjackets Stadium on Friday night.
“We got outplayed and out-coached,” Sheridan Coach Louis Campbell said. “It wasn’t even a ballgame. Their bus driver beat our bus driver.”
The Wildcats (6-0, 3-0 6A South) scored 21 points in the first quarter and was up 35-0 at half time, invoking the mercy rule, where the clock stops for timeouts and injuries only.

“I think they were confident they would win tonight so they didn’t come out and play as hard as they should have.”

On the back of Hunter, Glen Rose upsets Jessieville

October 1, 2011

This time last year, Glen Rose quarterback Collin Hunter had one of the best running backs in the state behind him with Steven Kehner. Having that ‘safety blanket’ in the backfield gave Hunter a year to mature and become a leader for the Glen Rose Beavers without the added pressure of being a starting quarterback.
Friday night, it seemed to pay off as Hunter led the Glen Rose Beavers to a 35-0 win over undefeated Jessieville on the road.
“He is growing up every week,” coach Mark Kehner said. “This was probably his first big game with the pressure on him to make plays and lead us.”

Lady Hornets win fourth straight with payback for Belles

October 1, 2011

When the Bryant Lady Hornets volleyball team went to Little Rock to play the Mount St. Mary Belles in early September at the McAuley Center, the Hornets lost to the Belles in four games due in large part to inconsistency.
On Thursday night, the Hornets revenged the loss to their rivals defeating them in four games – 3-1 (17-25, 25-19, 25-17, 25-17) – at home. The win gave Bryant its fourth 7A Central conference victory in a row and the Hornets are sitting comfortably in second place behind the Conway Lady Wampus Cats, which they play on Oct. 11 in Conway.
