Two Benton High School Band students recently performed with the Little Rock Wind Symphony in "An Organ Extravaganza!" at Second Presbyterian Church in Little Rock.
Hunter Law and Paul Davis, both senior percussionists, were asked to play by the symphony after Benton Band Director Trisha Sterling recommended them.
"I've been a member of the Little Rock Wind Symphony for eight years," Sterling said. "They asked me if I had any percussionists that were the caliber to play with them, and I said I had two."
The students participated in one concert, but Sterling said they might be asked back.
"It was definitely an honor," Davis said. It noted that it was exciting to work with musicians that were "very passionate about what they are doing."
Davis and Law rehearsed with the symphony weekly for several weeks in preparation for the performance.
The Little Rock Wind Symphony is in its 20th concert season. Karen Fannin, associated professor of music and director of bands at Hendrix College, has directed the symphony for the past seven years.
The symphony is composed of 45 professional and semi-professional musicians. The orchestra usually performs five times a year in Little Rock and has performed throughout the state.
