He was a member of Sharon Missionary Baptist Church and a veteran of the Korean Conflict.
Mr. Ramsey was retired from Alcoa after 35 years and was owner-operator of Wright-Away Taxi for several years.
Bill was known to many as an outstanding domino player, having had an opportunity to play on the professional circuit.  He continued playing dominoes every day until a few months ago when his health failed.
Bill will be remembered for his 15 years of service as a football coach to the Cardinals team in the Future Panther Football League and his 20 years as a coach for several baseball teams in the Sharon Community.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, James E. "Jim" and Bobby Joe Ramsey.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Claudine Guffey Ramsey of Benton; two daughters, Claudette Zuber and husband Jerry of Benton and Angela Ross and husband Larry of Bryant; and a son, Britt Ramsey and wife Jay of Benton.
Bill was so proud of his nine grandchildren, Nick Zuber and wife Melissa, Alaina Mitchell, Katie Zuber Davis and husband Jon, Dustin Pearson and wife Micah, Joseph Zuber and wife Jessi, Josh Zuber and wife Amanda, Jill Henley and husband Billy, and Brittony and Erica Ramsey; and three step-grandchildren, Steven Johnson and wife Amie, Taylor Robirts and Josh Looper.
The light of Bill’s life were his 10 great-grandchildren, Sophie Colon, Madie, Jack, Lathan, Ellie and Jeremiah Zuber, Larson Davis, Lane Henley, Graham Pearson and Cannon Mitchell.
Also left to cherish Bill’s memory are his brothers, George Jr. and wife Billye and Jack Ramsey and wife Mattie; his sisters, Martha Lequieu, Louise Houpt and husband Albert, Janie Penn, and Carole Gaiser and husband, Bernie; a sister-in-law, Hazel Ramsey; one aunt, Christine Elrod; many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, May 17, at Sharon Missionary Baptist Church. Officiants will include Bill’s pastor, Brother Richard Hamlin; a grandson, Brother Josh Zuber; a great-nephew, Brother Laramie Lequieu; and a lifelong friend, Brother Scotty Nalley.
Burial will follow at Sharon Cemetery with nephews serving as pallbearers.
Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. today, May 16, at Ashby Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Sharon Missionary Baptist Church.
