Billy Joe Stringfellow
Billy Joe Stringfellow, 81, left this life on July 1, at Saline Memorial Hospital Hospice House after a courageous battle with Alzheimer’s, dementia and Parkinson’s disease.
He had a love for antique tractors and equipment and spent many hours tinkering with them. He and his family spent many summers on Lake Ouachita at Navy Landing and at his “home away from home” in Pangburn. He loved music and would entertain everyone with his rendition of Hank Williams and Johnny Cash hits. Bill was a gifted storyteller and spent many hours outside gathered around friends and family smoking his pipe and spinning yarns. He had several nicknames such as “ornery,” “string bean” and “chicken plucker.” He was born July 28, 1929, to David Frank Stringfellow and Dora Etta (Vardell) Stringfellow. Born in Gravel Hill, he was the youngest of 10 children. He retired from Central Transport in 1994 after a lifelong career as a truck driver. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve from 1947 to 1950.
He married the love of his life, Dorothy Sherron DuVall, on Feb. 18, 1950, and enjoyed 50 wonderful years of marriage before her death in 2000. They were blessed with four children: Vicki Lorraine Stringfellow, Deborah Sharon Joe Lennox and husband Michael, Billy Ray Stringfellow and wife Barbre Ann, and Carol Denise Waddle and husband Anthony. He is survived by his four children, seven grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and three sisters.
