BREAKING: Apparent suicide on Springhill Road. Gun used believed to be one stolen from police officer
From Sgt. Todd Crowson of the Bryant Police Department:
Last night 9/23/13, just after 10:00 the Bryant Police Department received a call from one of our Officers reporting that someone had broken into his police vehicle and took several Police items, including his weapon, raid vest, taser. Investigators began to immediately work on the case in attempt to locate the stolen items and find the person who was responsible for the theft.
While working the case, Officers received a call to an address on Springhill Rd regarding a person being shot. When Officers arrived on scene, they found the victim, whose name cannot be released at this time, lying in the floor of a camper with what appeared to be a gunshot wound to the head. Lying on the floor next to the victim was the stolen gun from the Officers home. Also inside the camper Investigators recovered the stolen raid vest, taser, and other items that belonged to the Officer.
Since the items involved in the shooting were the stolen items from the Bryant Officers Police Unit, the Arkansas State Police were called in to assist with the investigation. At this time it does not appear to be any foul play involved and that the gunshot wound was self-inflicted.
The body was turned over to the Arkansas State Crime Lab for an autopsy.
While investigating the shooting, Officers learned of another suspect in the case. Nia Bullard (21) of Bryant was taken into custody and questioned by Investigators where she admitted to being involved with the theft of the Police Officer’s items, and also helped Investigators recovering more of the missing things.
She is being charged at this time with Theft of Property; Breaking and Entering; Hindering Apprehension; Tampering with Evidence.
