Bryant finance director resigns unexpectedly

January 13, 2014

Bryant Mayor Jill Dabbs, center, speaks during a press conference on Monday regarding the resignation of city Finance Director Dennis Edwards.

Dennis Edwards, finance director for the city of Bryant, has resigned. In announcing Edwards' departure, Mayor Jill Dabbs said she had not been pleased with the finance department's operation until hiring Edwards and commended his efforts during his brief employment with the city.
Dabbs criticized unnamed council members for making unnecessary Freedom of Information Act requests that hindered Edwards' ability to perform his job. She implied that the "unrelenting determination" of the aldermen led to Edwards' decision to leave, saying he and others have been caught in the "crosshairs" of their desire to serve with the compromising of their reputations and personal integrity. She said these aldermen have harassed employees on their jobs and in their homes and embarrassed them publicly at meetings.
Dabbs said she has contacted three major accounting firms that contract with municipalities to obtain their assistance in finalizing the city's financial statements for 2013 and to assist the council in passing a budget before the state's Feb. 1 deadline.
