Clyde Kelley Scott Sr.

Clyde Kelley Scott Sr., 82, of Benton, passed away Friday, Oct. 18, 2013.  He was born Oct. 11, 1931 in Benton. 
Mr. Scott graduated from Benton High School in 1950 and went on to serve in the Marine Corps during the Korean War.
He was very involved with the Boy Scouts of America: He served as a Scout Master for Troop 33 in Benton. In 1964, he attended the National Jamboree in Valley Forge, Pa.; In 1965 and 1972 he attended the Philmont Scout Ranch; in 1969, he attended the National Jamboree in Farragut State Park, Idaho; and in 1973 he was a Silver Beaver recipient.
Mr. Scott was a member of Holland Chapel Missionary Baptist Church, the American Legion and the Saline County Historical Society for 40 years. He retired from the U.S. Postal Service. 
Mr. Scott was preceded in death by his parents, Clyde O’Kelley Scott and Lois Lucille Leech Scott.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Laverne Scott; a daughter, Tonya Gilmore and husband Jim; a son, Clyde Kelley Scott Jr.; two sisters, Dorcas Scott Rea and Bonnie Lee Ward; a granddaughter, Lauren Strayer; and a great-grandson, Richard Jaramillo.
Funeral service is scheduled for 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 23, at Ashby Funeral Home. Pallbearers are Sam Samples, Gene Moss, John Jackson, Tim Ward, Carlton Cushing and Jim Gilmore.
Visitation is set from 4 to 6 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 22, at Ashby Funeral Home.
