Donal G. Applegate

April 13, 2012

Donal G. Applegate, 79, went to be with our Lord, April 10, after four years of fighting valiantly against esophageal cancer. He married his surviving wife, Claude Sutton's daughter, Marilyn, almost 57 years ago in Bauxite.
He has a beloved daughter, Jill Applegate Warbington (Danny) who considers him the "best daddy in the whole world," and the most special granddaughter, Abbey Warbington, who loves her Papo "up to the sky and down to the ground."
All of his nieces and nephews were precious to him. He "adopted" many non-relatives that will miss his warm love and care as well.
He dedicated his 39-year engineering management career to Alcoa, living in Arkansas, Texas, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Mobile, Ala., and with foreign assignments in Suriname and Brazil. Don and Marilyn retired in Mobile, living there for 28 years, before moving to Roswell, Ga., to be closer to Jill and her family.
In all relationships — be they with family, co-workers, friends or medical professionals — Don modeled the utmost respect, trust, and love, and, earning those in return, secured a place of admiration and honor in the hearts of all who knew him.
The family will have a private viewing at Carmichael Funeral Home, followed by a 2 p.m. public graveside service, today at Cheatham Hill Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in honor of Don be made to a local church, the Bauxite Historical Museum (P.O. Box 245, Bauxite, AR 72011), or Springhill Baptist Church (2 South McGregor Ave., Mobile, Ala., 36608).
Arrangements are by Carmichael Funeral Home in Marietta (770) 424-4924.
