Dr. John D. Wright

Dr. John D. Wright, was born Aug.15, 1925, in Saline County, and passed away at his home surrounded by loved ones in Benton on Feb. 10.
He served as a Lt J.G. in the U.S. Navy during World War II, during which time he eloped with Jeana Merle White on March 22, 1945.  He went to college and medical school through the V-12 program and practiced medicine for more than 50 years.
He was active in the community and served many years on the Benton School Board. He was a deacon at First Baptist Church, where he taught Sunday School for 56 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Bun Phillip Wright, and Glennie Grogan Wright of the Sardis community, and his brother, Doyle B. Wright of Little Rock.  
He is survived by his wife; a brother, Joe C. Wright; three sons, Michael David Wright of Nacogdoches, Texas, John Tom Wright of Denison, Texas, and Dr. Charles Kent Wright of Fort Smith; two daughters, Mary Carol Wright of Benton and Phyllis Jean Edgin of Benton.  He is also survived by seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 14, at First Baptist Church in Benton. Burial will follow at Pinecrest Memorial Park.
Pallbearers are Steven McGhee, Greg Edgin, Jon Edgin, Logan Denio, Samuel Cheeks,Tee Glasgow, Rich Tucker and Dylan Wright.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today, Feb. 13 at Ashby Funeral Home.
