Frank Eugene Knowles Jr.

April 25, 2011

Frank Eugene Knowles, Jr., 64, of Bryant passed away Friday, April 22, 2011.
He was born Sept. 19, 1946, in Little Rock to the late Mary Frances Nalls and Frank Eugene Knowles Sr.
Frank Jr. was also known as Skip, a nickname from his youth that stuck with him over the years.
Frank attended Little Rock Central High School, Arkansas State University and Petit Jean VoTech.
He had a gentleness about him, was honest, loving and had a spiritual nature. Overall Frank always had a great sense of humor, a great laugh, a loving, warm heart and a soulful personality.
An Army veteran, Frank served in the Vietnam War and was a sharpshooter and received a Purple Heart after being wounded. He loved the fact that he was a card-carrying gun permit holder and collected guns, swords and various weapons-though he never intended to harm another person. He was also a Black Belt in martial arts.
He was a husband, companion, lover and best friend to his wife of 39 years, Janean Woodcock Knowles.
Frank first asked her out on a date when she was 15 and he was 20, after receiving her mother’s permission. She said, “What took so long?” She then told her Girl Scout Troop that she would marry Frank someday. And they were indeed married when she was 21 and he was 26 on Dec. 1, 1972. Her maiden name was “Woodcock” and Dec. 1 was the first day of Woodcock Pheasant hunting season. Frank laughed and said, “Well, I got my hunting limit when I married you, Janean Woodcock!” Sadly, Frank developed A.L.S., Lou Gehrig’s Disease so early in life — as they had made a pact to grow old together. One of his priorities in life was keeping her secure, happy and safe, which he accomplished.
Frank was a very good father to their loving and supportive daughter, Andrea Nicole Russell and husband Jeffery Todd Russell; a good son to his mom, Potsie and sporting son to his Pop, Frank; and a big brother to his sister, Cathy Ann Lee. He is also survived by his grandsons, Charles Andrew Russell and Matthew Todd Russell; uncles, Reggie Nalls and Kenneth Adams; aunts, Hazel and Weldon Grable, Nola Tyson and Eloise Lawhon; and cousin Corrine Montine Ivey.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Griffin Leggett Forest Hills Funeral Home, 10200 Hwy. 5 North in Alexander, call 455-1067 with the Rev. Reggie Nalls officiating. Burial will follow in Pinecrest Memorial Park.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to MDA.
