The Cardinals fought hard Friday, but it wasn’t enough as Episcopal won 15-13.

The game, which was scheduled to be played in Little Rock, was instead played at Harmony Grove. The loss gives the Cardinals an 0-2 record in 3A-5 Conference playa after losing to Glen Rose earlier this week.

Still, Harmony Grove head coach Brandon Kelly was proud of the way his team played.

“Overall, we played a complete game. We just flat out got beat tonight,” he said. “We weren’t beating ourselves. We got runs and good, solid hits.
“There was an inning there where we kind of laid down, but got back up and picked up the momentum.
“I’m extremely proud of the boys.”

Aaron Arzt started pitching for the Cardinals. Kelly said, “He struggled for a while with some control issues but finally got into a groove.”

With a four run lead in the fifth inning, Kelly brought in Bodie Harris to relive Arzt.

Harmony Grove hosts Cutter Morning Star on Monday and Bismarck on Tuesday. On Thursday, the Cardinals travel to Fountain Lake, and then come back home to face Mayflower on Friday.

While not happy about losing his first two conference games, Kelly remains optimistic, knowing a team is never truly out of the race.

“Everything we do builds up to the district tournament, where anything is possible,” he said.
