Bryant and Arlington Country Day (Fla.) passed the lead back and forth three times on Wednesday at Sanford, Fla. but in the end Bryant pulled out an 8-4 win in seven innings over Arlington Country Day.
The Hornets broke a 4-4 tie in the top of the seventh with four runs thanks to two RBI singles by Dylan Cross and Tyler Brown.
Lucas Castleberry reached on an error to begin the inning and after Tyler Green ran for him, Landon Pickett singled to put runners on first and second with no one out.
A walk to Tyler Nelson loaded the bases and a single by Cross scored Green and Pickett to give the Hornets a 6-4 lead. With one out, Evan Jobe was hit by a pitch to load the bases again.
After an infield fly by Chris Joiner, Brown would single to right field to score two more runs and given Bryant the edge over Arlington Country Day.
Bryant scored three runs in the fifth to take a 4-3 lead thanks to a two-run double by Cross that tied the game.
Castleberry walked and Pickett was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning and a walk to Nelson loaded the bases. Cross would double to center field to score two runs and tie the game.
Josh Pultro singled to center to bring home Nelson and give Bryant their second lead of the game.
A sacrifice fly by Joiner in the second inning gave Bryant a 1-0 lead. Arlington Country Day scored three runs in the bottom of the third to take a 3-1 lead and would tie the game again in the sixth.
Taylor pitched seven innings, allowing four runs (all earned) on six hits with two walks and 10 strikeouts.
Taylor was 2 for 3 with two walks and Cross was 2 for 3 with 4 RBIs. Brown was 1 for 4 with two RBIs and a walk. Joiner was 0 for 3 with a RBI and a walk.
Pickett was 2 for 3 with two runs scored while Nelson was 1 for 2 with three runs scored. Pultro was 1 for 2 with a RBI and Jobe was 1 for 2 with a walk.
The game was the second of the Northwest Powerade Classic and the Hornets are scheduled to play East Ridge High School (Fla.) today at 7 p.m.View more articles in:
