POYEN – After dropping a 7-4A conference game 4-0 to the Maumelle Hornets on Monday, the Bauxite Miners came back to shut out the Poyen Indians 6-0 in non-conference action on Tuesday in Poyen.
Junior pitcher Chris Revas led the Miners (8-9, 2-3 7-4A) to victory pitching a compete-game shutout, scattering three hits and striking out five without a walk.

“He pitched real well,” Bauxite Coach Michael Mattox said of Revas. “He threw his breaking ball for first-pitch strikes. He just had it going. He bottled his fast ball up good. Any time he throws his breaking ball for strikes, he’s really effective because he has some good sink on his fast ball anyway. His breaking ball is such a good off-speed pitch, it just keeps hitters guessing.

“He did really well against a lineup that beat us last time at home. For him to come back out and face them like that and shut them down the way he did, it was rewarding for him.”

Sophomore Ethan Hendrix hit a two-run home run to left field in the top of the fourth inning after a Patrick Dangle walk.

The Miners also scored three runs in the second inning. Sophomore Blake Yates reached on a walk, freshman Estevan Padilla attempted to sacrifice bunt Yates to second an reached on an error and sophomore Ian Allred tried to sacrifice the runners to second and third, but the bunt was good enough for a hit to load the bases. Sean Beesly hit a two-run single and Allred scored on a wild pitch.

“We had some guys hit the ball hard,” Mattox started, “we just had some guys hit it right at them. Defensively we made some changes and it looks like they were positive changes. Some guys had a chance to play and they stood out. They were just excited to play again.”
