Lady Beavers need to ‘stay the course’

With an undefeated conference record, the Glen Rose Lady Beavers are going into the 3A-5 District Tournament as the No. 1 seed.
In doing so, Glen Rose has a bye until the semifinal round of the tournament, which is scheduled to start Friday at Mayflower.
No matter what happens Saturday, when the Lady Beavers first play, head coach Kyle Lem said his team will advance to the 3A Regional Tournament held at Harding Academy in Searcy starting Friday, May 6.
However, don’t expect the Lady Beavers to roll over any time soon.
“Obviously we want to win so we can get a higher seed,” Lem said.
Glen Rose (10-2, 6-0 3A-5) was scheduled to play at Bismarck today, but Lem said poor field conditions after this week’s storms caused the game to be canceled.
So, in the meantime the Lady Beavers have been forced to practice indoors in the school arena.
“It’s not your ideal situation,” he said.
Still, Lem said if his team continues to play like it has all season, they should be successful.
“We can’t play flat, and we haven’t played in two weeks,” he said. “We need to have good, quality defense and come in and swing the bats well. We’ll also need to continue to run the bases aggressively.”
He said, “We just have to stay the course as far as that goes.”
The offense will be anchored by the lineup’s first four: seniors Madison Jacobs, Stephanie Farber and Hollie Boles and sophomore Rebecca Tuggle.
Depending on how first-round games play out Friday, Lem said he will start either Jacobs or senior Tiffany Houpt on the mound Saturday.
“It’s a good feeling that you don’t have to do everything perfect to win,” Lem said. “As long as we do what we’ve been coached to do, we’re going to be successful.”
He said, “We don’t feel like we have to play what we’re not capable of.”
