After receiving a bye in the opening round of the 7A state tournament, the No. 2 seed Bryant Lady Hornets will take on No. 3 seed Fort Smith Southside today, which beat Rogers 3-0 on Tuesday at Rogers Heritage High School. The Lady Hornets will play at 2 p.m.
"We're going to have to play," Bryant Coach Beth Solomon said. "We came up and watched them yesterday. We had a pretty good walk-thru practice. We're excited, the girls are excited. We played them last year in the state tournament. We won the first two and dropped the last three. The girls are ready to redeem that."
The Lady Hornets(19-4) went undefeated in 7A/6A South conference play on the year with a 12-0 record. Coming from the 7A Central conference, which was a volleyball powerhouse, Bryant was moved to the 7A/6A South as the only 7A team in the conference, which doesn't give the best preparation going into the state tournament.
"We've had a great season and the girls are still building on that," Solomon said. "It'll be interesting to see how we play today against the 7A because our conferences are all mixed up. I have a feeling we're going to surprise some of these schools up here.
"The girls have had a great season and we're looking to finish it on a high, hopefully all the way to Saturday (finals). They're similar to Benton. I think they're beatable. We've watched them play and have developed a few little plays and tricks to get around the way they play defense."
