Lady Panthers take freshman classic

BENTON – The Benton Junior High volleyball Lady Panthers won the 2013 Benton Freshman Classic on Saturday in Benton, taking down the Bryant Jr. Lady Hornets 25-17 and 25-19 in the championship match.
The Lady Panthers finished first in pool play, dropping one set to Lakeside before sweeping Arkadelphia and Bryant to meet back up with Arkadelphia in the first match of bracket play. Benton beat Arkadelphia 25-11 and 25-19 to advance to Bryant in the championship match.
Emme Edmondson had eight kills, Maggie Carson led the Lady Panthers with eight digs, and Breanna Landreth finished with four aces, scoring the last two points of the final set on resounding top spin serves for two aces.
Next up for the Jr. Lady Panthers is Conway White at Benton Arena tonight, with eighth grade playing at 5 p.m. and the ninth grade following at 6 p.m.
