Lola Faye Davis Conklin

September 20, 2013

Lola Faye Davis Conklin, 84, of Malvern died the morning of Sept. 19, 2013, at the Hot Springs County Hospital. She was born April 21, 1929, to the late William Benjamin “Bill” Davis and Lucy Belle Montgomery in a farmhouse, at the foot of White Oak Mountain near Waldron. Mrs. Conklin was the second of five children born into the family. Lola was an license psychiatric technician nurse who retired after 20 years of working for the state at the old Benton State Hospital and the Alexander Children’s Colony. She loved taking care of those in need. At age 84, she climbed on the back of a four-wheeler to ride with her son to check on her daughter-in-law who had open-heart surgery.
She enjoyed the outdoors, gardening, fishing and dancing with her husband. But the thing she liked the most was being involved with her children and grandchildren, asking how they were doing and encouraging each of them to do our best. During her last three years, Lola had lived with family members and also at the Malvern Nursing Home. As a patient in the nursing home, she was always trying to help others and really enjoyed the activities that she was involved in.
She is survived by a sister, 82-year-old Gladys Herring of Warren; her husband of more than 27 years, Jay Conklin; daughter Wanda Roark; three sons, Billy Edward, Thomas Eugene Williams and Charles Howard Floyd; two step-sons, James Conklin and Jerry Conklin all of Malvern; 12 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be 10 a.m., Saturday, Sept. 21, at Shadow Lawn Cemetery in Malvern. Pallbearers will be Larry Bell, Jerry Conklin Sr., Jerry Conklin Jr., Will Roark, Dane Floyd and Dillon Floyd.
A family visitation will be 6:30 to 8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 20, at Ashby Funeral Home in Benton.
