Loys V. Halbert Jr., 81, of Benton went to be with the Lord on Monday, Jan. 28.
Loys was a barber for many years, and he always had a laugh and a joke for his customers, but at heart Loys was an artist. He looked at the world around him and found art everywhere, whether it was in a fresh snowfall or a crappie chasing a lure.
His paintings and drawings captured life with an appreciation for beauty in everything. If he was not creating memories with a pencil and brush, he was bringing joy with the plucking of a string. Loys loved to grab his mandolin and go “picking and grinning” with wife Jill and friends enjoying the music and often bringing joy and happiness to those who needed it. But of all things, Loys loved to fish. He fished with his father and passed the love of fishing and nature down to his children and grandchildren.
Some of the best times they ever had were spent catching a cooler full or fish, or not, and just having a day together. He was a man who loved his family and was devoted to them. He taught them about God and faith and had a strength of character that will be missed by those who knew him; although he will be missed and we will grieve for him, his faith allows us to know that he is in a better place in the presence of the Lord.
Loys leaves behind his loving wife of 57 years, Jill Halbert; his son, Dain Halbert and wife Gina; and a daughter, Kristie Leigh Halbert, all of Benton; a sister, Carolyn Ashcraft and husband John of Prattsville; and two grandchildren, Jacob Dain Halbert and Shelby Gale Halbert, both of Benton.
Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 31, in the chapel of Roller-Ballard Funeral Home with the Revs. Carl Richey and Jason Tallent officiating. Burial will follow at Philadelphia Cemetery in Prattsville.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 30, at the funeral home.

Family comments: The Halbert family would like to say a special thanks to Saline Memorial Hospital Hospice in Bryant for the excellent care. The nurses and staff there made life easier for our family at a very trying time. Their kindness and generosity of spirit will not be forgotten. Thank you.
