Manhunt ends with arrest

December 19, 2012

Joshua James Young, 28

Update:

A robbery suspect who eluded law enforcement officers for nearly 24 hours was captured early this morning, authorities said.
Lt. Mike Frost of the Saline County Sheriff's Office said 28-year-old Joshua James Young of Alexander was taken into custody about 7 a.m. today and is being held without bond in the Saline County jail. Young is scheduled for a bond hearing Friday in Benton District Court.
About 8 a.m. Wednesday, Young reportedly attempted to steal a generator from a home on Point View Road off U.S. 70, but he made noises that alerted the homeowner. Young reportedly pointed a gun at the homeowner when confronted and then drove off on a 4-wheeler.
As deputies responded to the area, they chased Young along Point View Road to Newcomb Road and eventually wrecked the 4-wheeler on Oklahoma Inn Road. Young then fled on foot, leaving a shoe behind. Deputies then spent the rest of the day and night searching for Young in the wooded areas.
Deputies reported to The Saline Courier on Wednesday that Young was armed and considered dangerous.
Frost said that Young reportedly knocked on the doors of a few homes asking residents to give him some gas.
"We believe he may have a stolen dirt bike somewhere in those woods and that was how he planned to try and get away," Frost said. "But when he knocked on the door of the third house, a deputy pulled in and Young took off on foot again. But with so many deputies there, he didn't make it far this time."
Young is facing felony charges of aggravated robbery, two counts of aggravated assault, four counts of fleeing, attempted theft of property, felon in possession of a firearm, theft of property, interfering with a law enforcement officer, and misdemeanor offenses of resisting arrest and riding an ATV on a public road.
