CABOT – Down 1-0 after four innings, the Benton McClendon’s put on a power surge in the top of the fifth scoring four runs and holding on to a 4-3 victory over Cabot Centennial Bank in Cabot on Monday night.
After Cabot starting pitcher Hayden Vinson struck out the first two Benton batters to start the fifth, shortstop Jack James singled and would score on a Tyler Lewis 2-run home run to give Benton the lead at 2-1. Clay Holicer followed with a single, and like deja vu, Cole Southerland hit a 2-run home run to put Benton up 4-1. Wesley Ramsey hit a double before Vinson struck out the side, but not before the McClendon’s did their damage.
Cabot scored two in the bottom of the inning, but Benton held on to the victory.
Zack Smiley started for Benton and picked up the win giving up three runs on six hits and seven walks in 4.2 innings, and he struck out five. Ramsey got the save giving up two hits and no walks in two innings and struck out two.
Lewis finished 2 for 4 with the home run and two RBI, Southerland went 2 for 3 with two RBI and the dinger, Holicer and Ramsey each went 2 for 3, James 2 for 4, and Zac Caplinger went 1 for 3.
The McClendon’s will play Bryant on Wednesday at Hornets Field in Bryant at 8 p.m.
