Arkansas Motorcyclists Helping Arkansans is seeking people for its program that gives financial assistant to individuals with health issues.
Each year the organization chooses a man, a woman and a child to receive aid.
The nonprofit organization raises money to help each with expenses, including medical bills, utilities, groceries and clothing.
People needing assistance may send a letter indicating their health issue and their need to AMHA, 22121 Dixie Road, Little Rock, AR 72223. The group also has an email address at firstname.lastname@example.org.
After reviewing all requests, the board will decide whom it can sponsor.
Last year, the organization helped the family of a 13-year-old boy with brain cancer. Past recipients include those suffering from muscular dystrophy and autism.
The idea was started a few years ago when a man named Lil James, one of the members of the Thunderheads motorcycle club, came up with the idea.
"We are small but are growing," said Sharon Merkel, one of the founders of the nonprofit. "We just want to let the people of Arkansas know that we are here for them and would like to help them in any way we can."
The group will host a fundraiser on Monday. The third annual Dance Drive & Survive event will be held at Golf of Castle Valley, 8500 Castle Valley Road in Mabelvale.
The three-person golf scramble will start at 8 a.m. Cost is $150 per team.
The event also will feature live bands, a 2 p.m. game of horseshoes, Baggo at 4 p.m. and a 7 p.m. pool tournament and shuffleboard game.
The entry fee for each game will be $5. A $25 donation covers all events except golf.
Questions may be directed to Merkel at 870-941-6010, Michael Schoggen at 501-410-0060 or Lil James at 501-626-6817.
