Ron Mayfield

Ron Mayfield, 59, passed away on Oct. 29, at his home in Benton.  Ron was born Dec. 16, 1952, in East St. Louis, Ill. Ron was of the Lutheran faith.
He worked at Alltel in networking.
Ron served his country in the Air Force and was a Vietnam veteran.  He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles #60 and the American Legion. He attended college at the Danville Community College in Danville, Illinois and taught there for several years as well as working at the Danville Library.  Ron enjoyed wood-working, computers, camping and his two loyal canine companions, Angel and Max. He loved politics and watching Fox News day and night.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Oliver Eugene and Shirley Mayfield; and one son.
Ron is survived by his wife of 13 years, Deborah Griffey Mayfield; four children, Rhonda Sprangler and husband Mike, Derek Mayfield, Dustin Mayfield, and Clay Griffey and wife Adrian; two sisters, Mary Snyder and husband Dennis and Trish Thiel; six grandchildren; nieces, nephews, friends and other family members, all of whom loved him and will miss him dearly.  
A memorial celebration and visitation will be held at 2 p.m.Saturday, Nov. 3, at Peaceful Haven Funeral Home, 322 N. Market St. in Benton. Saline Memorial Hospice House Chaplain Kim Hammer will officiate.
