Rumors swirl of new Bryant AD

May 4, 2011

This morning rumors were abound that the Bryant Public Schools System was ready to name a new athletic director.
When asked if a candidate had been chosen, Bryant director of communications Jessica Bollen said, “No.”
But, Bollen said the Bryant School Board will hold a personnel hearing at 5 p.m. today in the Professional Development Center.
Bollen said the board will discuss “some recommended hirings.” However, Bollen said she could not confirm whether the meeting, which will go into executive session, will include any discussion of the athletic director position.
Citing “multiple sources,” a statewide newspaper today reported that Van Buren coach Mike Lee will succeed Bryant Athletic Director Tom Farmer, who will take over as the district’s transportation director July 1, the beginning of the next contract year.
Farmer also will act as assistant director of maintenance.
Lee coached the Pointers for three seasons. Last year, his team had a 7-5 record and made it to the Class 6A quarterfinals.
Bollen said the executive session — a private meeting of the board — will be held in a separate room and that the public and press will not be allowed access.
