Sport Shop loses three straight at Jacksonville

The Benton Junior Legion team Sport Shop lost three straight games in a tournament in Jacksonville including a 6-5 loss to Rosebud, a 8-5 loss to Jacksonville and a 11-0 rout to Sheridan on Sunday.
In Sunday’s game against Sheridan, Sport Shop managed just three hits while Sheridan scored 11 runs on nine hits with just one error. Benton’s Tyler Massey had a single in the first inning and Jay Davies had a single in the second.
Tyler Turbyfill had a single in the fifth inning to account for all three hits. Braxton Zimmerman reached on a walk in the second inning.
Matt Mitchell pitched three innings, allowing seven hits with three walks and three strikeouts. Michael Higginbotham pitched one inning, allowing two hits with a strikeout.
In game two on Saturday, Rose Bud defeated Sport Shop 6-5, after scoring four runs in the fifth and two in the fourth. Sport Shop scored a run in the third, two in the fifth and two in the sixth.
Rosebud had six runs on seven hits with two errors and Benton had five runs on two hits with no errors. In the third inning, Jacob Pinkerton reached on a walk and later scored on an error that allowed Higginbotham to reach first.
A walk to Jordan Deaton, a single by Mitchell, and a walk to Aaron Gagan accounted for two runs in the fifth. In the sixth with one out, Jonathan Dixon and Chris Hamilton had back-to-back walks. Jordan Deaton singled and two runs would score before the inning ended on a double play.
Davies pitched 5 1/3 innings, allowing six hits with four walks and a strikeout. Cody Childs pitched one inning, allowing one hit with a walk and a strikeout.
In the first game on Saturday, Benton lost to host team Jacksonville 8-5, scoring all five of their runs in the fourth inning. Jacksonville scored two in the second and six in the third.
In the fourth, Pinkerton led off with a walk, and Davies reached on an error with two outs. Zimmerman double and Hamilton followed with a walk. A second error allowed Deaton to reach and Higgingbotham reached on a walk before the inning ended on a fly ball.
Benton had five runs on two hits with three errors while Jacksonville had eight runs on six hits with two errors.
Cody Fortner pitched three innings, allowing five hits with three walks and one strikeout. Ian Allred pitched two innings, allowing one hit with a walk and no strikeouts.
Pinkerton pitched one inning and struck out two batters.
On Friday, Sport Shop defeated Lakeside 12-2 at Lakeside High School after scoring two runs in the first, five in the second, one in the third and four in the fourth. Lakeside had a run in the first and fifth inning.
Benton tallied eight hits with no errors and Lakeside had three hits with four errors.
Benton’s Hamilton pitched five innings, allowing three hits with four strikeouts and three walks.
On June 1st, Benotn lost to Bryant 17-0. Bryant scored eight runs in the first, two in the second, three in the third and four in the fourth. They had 12 hits and just one error while Benton failed to get a hit and had four errors.
Benton pitcher Ethan Hendrix pitched one inning, allowing five hits with two walks and a strikeouts. Mitchell threw 2 1/3 innings, allowing seven hits with five walks and a strikeout. Alred pitched 2/3 of an inning and allowed two hits with a walk.
According to their schedule, Benton Sport Shop will play Tuesday at Lake Hamilton beginning at 6 p.m.
