Truman E. Ashcraft

Truman E. Ashcraft, 83, of Pine Bluff, died Wednesday, July 6, at his home. He was born May 14, 1928, in Tull the son of Ernest and Delva Tull Ashcraft. Mr. Ashcraft was reared and received his early education in Tull and Pine Bluff, graduating from Pine Bluff High School. He served in the United States Navy during World War II and the Korean Conflict.
Mr. Ashcraft worked as a brakeman for Southern Pacific Railroad for 30 years and retired in 1992. He co-owned and operated Ashcraft Fox Pen in Grapevine and Jo’s Pet Shop in Pine Bluff with his wife, Josephine Ashcraft. Truman was a member of First United Methodist Church in Pine Bluff, and past member of Southeast Arkansas Kennel Club and Arkansas Fox and Wolf Hunter’s Association.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Ronald Mac Ashcraft and Dr. John Ashcraft.
He is survived by his wife, Josephine “Jo” Crowson Ashcraft, and they married June 19, 1948, in Pine Bluff; son, Joe Carrol Ashcraft and wife, Libby, of Fort Worth, Texas; two daughters, Linda McDaniel and husband, Rodney, of Texarkana, and Regina Blackstock and husband, Jerry, of Pine Bluff; sister, Wynell Morris of Orlando, Fla.; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m., Saturday at First United Methodist Church with Rev. David Fleming and Rev. Edna Morgan officiating, by Ralph Robinson and Son. Burial will follow at 1:30 p.m. at Ebenezer Cemetery in Tull with military honors. Visitation will be Friday evening from 5 to 7 p.m. at Robinson’s.
