Tyndall Park is hoppin'

Tull cousins Cash and Corbin Robinson, both 7, hop stones Tuesday at Tyndall Park. Pictured in the background is Cash’s 5-year-old sister, Anna Robinson. The trio enjoyed the park with their grandfather after helping out at a neighbor’s farm. Tyndall has been bustling with activity as students are out of school for spring break.

An Airbus with 150 people onboard crashed in the southern French Alps on Tuesday, officials said. The A320, operated by Lufthansa’s budget airline Germanwings, was flying from Barcelona to Dusseldorf and went down in the Digne region of the Alps-De-Haute Province, according to Reuters. There were 144 passengers, two pilots and four crew members, Germanwings said.

City getting ‘aggressive’ in wooing commerce

City leaders say those two small words are the beginning of one enormous leap to make Benton a thriving center of commerce.

The phrase is a motto for the Benton Business Development Initiative, a concept Mayor David Mattingly is calling an “aggressive” way of marketing the city to prospective industries and retailers.

Bentonville Film Festival announces several star guests

LITTLE ROCK — Robert De Niro and Rosie O'Donnell are among several of the stars that officials say will appear at the Bentonville Film Festival.

The Arkansas Democrat-Gazette (http://bit.ly/1B7TXte ) reports organizers say the event, which runs from May 5 to May 9, could attract as many as 25,000 visitors to the northwest Arkansas city of Bentonville.

Movies in the park returns this weekend

Movies in the Park is returning a second year to Benton, and the first showing will be this week.

Beginning at sunset Friday, March 27, the Benton Parks and Recreation Department will host a free screening of “Guardians of the Galaxy,” a PG-13 film based on a comic book team of the same name. The movie will be shown free of charge at the Juli Busken Amphitheater.

Historic walk draws crowd

Rachel Silas, Preservation Outreach Coordinator for the Arkansas Historic Preservation Program, led more than 100 residents on the free historic tour of downtown Benton on Saturday.

The tour consisted of the Saline County Courthouse and the Gann Museum. Silva listed historical information on a variety of downtown buildings through the two-hour walking tour.
