LITTLE ROCK (AP) — Arkansas lawmakers have given final approval to a religious-freedom bill that has drawn sharp criticism from opponents who say it opens the door to state-sanctioned discrimination against gays and lesbians.

Dabbs to deliver state of city speech at Tuesday's council meeting

Mayor Jill Dabbs will begin the Bryant City Council meeting at 7 p.m. Tuesday by giving her annual “State of the City” speech.

The location is Boswell Municipal Complex.

This council also is scheduled to discuss possibly repealing a $20,000 forensic audit that was approved by the council in 2013.

Mayor's Easter Egg Hunt set for Saturday

The Bryant Parks and Recreation Department will be hosting the 8th annual Mayor’s Easter Egg Hunt at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 4 at Alcoa 40 Park.

Children age 12 and under are encourage to participate. Other activities at the event will include face painting, bounce houses, lots of games and prizes and live music provided by DJ Raquel.

The Easter Bunny will also be at the event.

Police have not said what caused injuries to a toddler’s arm after visiting a local park Wednesday afternoon, leaving more questions than answers surrounding the incident.

Hazardous Waste drop off set for Saturday

The Saline County Regional Solid Waste Management District will be hosting an event to collect household hazardous waste from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday at Northside Church of Christ.

Items accepted included paints, pool chemicals, pesticides, herbicides, used oil, kerosene, paint thinners, batteries, household cleaners and light bulbs.

Tyndall Park is hoppin'

Tull cousins Cash and Corbin Robinson, both 7, hop stones Tuesday at Tyndall Park. Pictured in the background is Cash’s 5-year-old sister, Anna Robinson. The trio enjoyed the park with their grandfather after helping out at a neighbor’s farm. Tyndall has been bustling with activity as students are out of school for spring break.

An Airbus with 150 people onboard crashed in the southern French Alps on Tuesday, officials said. The A320, operated by Lufthansa’s budget airline Germanwings, was flying from Barcelona to Dusseldorf and went down in the Digne region of the Alps-De-Haute Province, according to Reuters. There were 144 passengers, two pilots and four crew members, Germanwings said.

City getting ‘aggressive’ in wooing commerce
