BRYANT – The Bryant swim team dominated once again as the Lady Hornets scored 530 points and Hornets 382 points to demolish the competition on Thursday at the Bishop Park Natatorium in Bryant. The Bryant girls defeated second-place Pulaski Academy (236) by almost 300 points, while the boys topped Magnolia (306) by 76. The Benton boys (251) took fourth, while the Lady Panthers (163) took fifth.
Bryant would take first-place finishes in events 2-6 with Justin Combs scoring 171.90 in the boys 1-meter dive, the girls 200-yard medley relay team of Lindsey Buter, Libby Thompson, Katie Higgs and Ploy Freebairn took first with a time of 203.15. The Hornet boys also took first in the 200y medley relay with Ray Weldon, Chandler Reep, James Dellorto and Andrew Ball finishing in 1:52.97, and Rachel Vos took first in the 200y freestyle with a time of 2:17.49.
Benton would take first in the next two events with Garrett Sullivan taking first in the 200y freestyle with a time of 1:53.92, and Hope Ernhart finishing with a time of 2:26.28 in the 200y IM, edging Bryant’s Freebairn (2:30.91) and Higgs (2:31.04).
Bryant’s Fonzee Bittle (2:35.44) and Dellorto (2:36.09) finished 1-2 in the 200y IM, and Butler would take another first place in the 50y freestyle in a time of 27.73. Benton’s Jenna Jamison took fourth in 28.11.
Benton’s Sullivan would pick up another first-place finish taking the top spot in the 100y butterfly with a time of 58.20, and Bryant’s Andrew Ball took first in the 100y freestyle in a time of 58.30, with Benton’s Elliott Daniels and Jax Hopkins on his heels with times of 59.06 and 59.68, respectively.
Vos would also pick up another first-place finish as she finished first in the 500y freestyle in a time of 6:11.73. Teammate Jacey Bittle took second in 6:25.73.
The Lady Hornets would team up again for a first-place finish when Higgs, Kalee Jackson, Freebairn and Butler won the 200y freestyle relay in 1:50.71, while the Panther boys, consisting of Daniels, Hopkins, Zachary Dawson and Sullivan, would take the 200y free relay in 1:42.37.
Butler would get Bryant another first-place in the 100y backstroke, which she holds the state record at 58.23. On Thursday, Butler finished in 1:04.18, edging Benton’s Ernhart for first, who swam in 1:07.89.
Bryant’s Trace Rhode took first in the 100y backstroke in 1:07.16, while Chandler Reep grabbed first in the 100y breaststroke in 1:09.99, and teammates Weldon and Ball finishing 3-4 at 1:12.51 and 1:18.30.
Benton would close the meet with a victory in the 400y freestyle relay. Dawson, Hopkins, Daniels and Sullivan finished in 3:55.92 to Magnolia’s second-place time of 4:03.15.
Higgs and Freebairn would finish 2-3 in the 100y butterfly, Weldon took second in the 500y freestyle, Jacey Bittle, Jenna Jamison and Libby Thompson finished 3-5 in the 100y breast stroke. In the girls 400y freestyle relay, Bittle, Vos, Smith and Jackson finished second for Bryant in 4:25.16, while Benton’s Jamison, Erin Peters, Victoria Brock and Ernhart took third in 4:34.21.
