BRYANT – The Bryant Lady Hornets held 7A/6A South Conference leader Sheridan Lady Jackets down for two innings, but Sheridan, which threatened the first two innings, finally broke through in the third inning against the Lady Hornets and stayed undefeated in the South with an 8-2 victory in Bryant on Tuesday.
Bryant starting pitcher Jordan Williams would get out of a runners at second and third with one out in the first inning jam, and a bases-load jam in the second inning to keep the score knotted at 0-0 after the first two innings of play as Sheridan starter Sydney Bonner retired seven consecutive Lady Hornets until Macey Jaramillo’s two-out single in the third which led to no runs.
But it was the top of the third which the Lady Jackets would get on the board. Williams walked Hunter Clark to start and Corben Talbert singled to left field. The Sheridan right fielder followed with a 3-run home run for a 3-0 lead after three.
The Lady Jackets added two in the top of the fourth when Talbert hit a sacrifice fly and Madison Crosby singled home Clark for the 5-0 lead after four innings.
But the Lady Hornets (14-5, 7-3 South) would make some noise in the bottom of the fifth. Presli Pendergrass walked to start the inning, third baseman Tori Hernandez reached on an infield single and leadoff Katy Stillman took Bonner’s first pitch to centerfield for an RBI double and 5-1 deficit. Hernandez scored on Jaramillo’s RBI fielder’s choice to make it 5-2, with Jaramillo reaching on an error by the shortstop to put runners at first and second, but Kaley Coppack bounced to second base and Madison Crosby tagged Jaramillo and threw to first for a double play.
The Lady Hornets put runners at first and third in the bottom of the sixth, but couldn’t get any runners across as the Lady Jackets added three more.
Sheridan outhit Bryant 15-5 as Jaramillo went 1 for 3 with an RBI, Hernandez went 1 for 3 with a run, Pendergrass went 1 for 2 with a run, Kayla Jolley went 1 for 3, and Stillman went 1 for 4 with an RBI.
