Sheridan defeats El Dorado, faces Dumas tonight

Although the Sheridan Lady Yellowjackets trailed for most of the game, they were able to rally in the fifth inning to take a one-run lead and eventually defeat El Dorado 6-3 Tuesday night.

Sheridan scored a run in the third, three in the fifth and two in the seventh while El Dorado scored a run in the first, a run in the second and a run in the third.

Sheridan’s two runs in the seventh inning gave the Lady ‘Jackets a three-run lead.

“We didn’t strike out a single time in the game. We hit a lot of line drives but it would be right to people,” coach Eddie Woodall said. “Overall though we played pretty well.”

With one out, Mycha Love singled and Lauren Sweeten hit a RBI double to score Love. Katelyn Jones followed with a RBI single to give Sheridan their cushion heading into the final inning.

In the fifth inning, Sheridan scored three-runs to take a one-run lead thanks to a two-run double by Sweeten and a RBI single by Jones to go up 4-3.

Sheridan got on the board in the third inning when with two outs, a fly ball to center field was dropped and allowed Love to reach second. Hannah Hicks hit a RBI single to score Love and reach third on the play. Sweeten would hit a missile towards second but it would be caught by El Dorado’s second baseman to end the inning.

The run would trim El Dorado’s lead to 2-1 but the Lady Wildcats would get a RBI single in the bottom of the third to increase their lead back to 3-1.

Starter Katelyn Jones was pulled after she walked three of the first four batters.

“She struggled a little bit throwing strikes,” Woodall said.

Hicks pitched the rest of the game, allowing two earned runs on six hits with five strikeouts and one walk.

“She does what you need,” Woodall said. “Lauren Sweeten has really been hitting the ball well lately.”

Love was 2-4 with three runs, Sweeten was 2-4 with three RBIs and two runs scored and Jones was 2-4 with two RBIs and two stolen bases. Hicks finished the game 1-4 with a RBI and Allison Stipes also had a hit.

In the JV game, Sheridan defeated El Dorado 5-0 thanks to Sidney Bonner who pitched five innings and allow just one hit with seven strikeouts and one walk.

Bonner was also 1-2 with a run scored, Stipes was 1-2 with a run scored and a RBI while Morgan White was 2-2 with a run scored and Morgan Cotten was 2-2 with a RBI and two runs scored.

The Lady ‘Jackets will travel to Dumas today and will play at Benton Friday.
