Polar Plunge     Hurricane Creek Estates was the sight for this year's "Freezin' for a Reason" fundraiser. The event, sponsored by the Benton Police Department, was known as the Polar Plunge. Participants obtained sponsors who would pay for entrants to enter the winter cold water of Lake Hurricane. The event was considered a big success as over $18,000 was raised this year. Proceeds from the event were to the benefit of Special Olympics.

Lady Hornets earn medals     Five Lady Hornets earned bronze medals at the University of Arkansas National High School Track & Field Inviational held Saturday at the Tyson Track Center. Medalists included Alexis Royal (60 meter hurdles) and the 4 x 800 meter relay team of Hannah Raney, Melinda Murdock, Marley Adams and Stacy Emmerling. The relay team also posted the best time of any Arkansas high school during the meet.

Miners win     The Bauxite Miners picked up a 54-36 victory on the road Friday night over the DeQueen Leopards. The Miners improve to 11-6 and 4-2 in the 7-4A conference. Leading scorer for the Miners was senior Cody McPherson with 19 points.
